WHERE TO GO SCUBA DIVING IN NEGRIL, JAMAICA

THE THRONE ROOM

The Throne Room is one of the most popular places for scuba diving in Negril, Jamaica. Divers enter this gorgeous reef through a fairly wide cavern. Once inside, you’ll be greeted by the sight of stunning, colorful reef walls. This particular reef is home to the largest orange elephant ear sponges in Jamaica! Upon exiting, you’ll see where the reef gets its name from– a large sponge that resembles a throne. Once outside, you’ll find yourself entering into an even larger and deeper reef at a depth of 70 feet.

THE ARCHES & SHALLOW PLANE

Many years ago, a plane was purposely sunk to create an artificial reef. Known as the Shallow Plane dive site, it is now teeming with activity! A large school of soldierfish has found a home in its hull. On the opposite side, you will find a large arch which you can pass through and make your way to the drop off where you’ll find a sand shelf. You’ll get to witness stunning coral heads, soft gorgonians, and purple sea fans. Higher over the reef, black dudgeons and blue and brown chromis can be seen swimming about.

BLOODY BAY & SHALLOW PLANE

Legend has it that the Bloody Bay, at one end of Seven Mile Beach, was once the site of a pirate battle, but now, it is one of the most popular beaches on the island. When you dive here, you’ll get to explore the Bloody Bay Reef and another sunken plane. Unlike the Shallow Plane, the Deep Plane was sunk in an accident. Stories say that it was a plane used to export ganja that didn’t quite make it to the Negril airstrip!

KING FISH POINT

King Fish Point is also an excellent spot for scuba diving in Negril, Jamaica, if you are looking to see some underwater creatures. Immediately after descending, you will come across a lovely, low-profile patch reef where you can spend a considerable amount of time viewing the various sponges and fish that reside there. Among the elephant ear sponges and the yellow tube sponges, you may also find Spanish hogfish, smooth and bandtail puffers, and damselfish.
